The UGC has issued strict directives to universities and higher educational institutions regarding student safety and well-being. This includes the formation of a transparent grievance and ragging committee, and monitoring issues such as fees, admissions, and discrimination.
University Grants Commission (UGC) has instructed universities and other higher education institutions to undertake all necessary measures for keeping their students safe and healthy, as was done before.
These include setting up a student grievance and ragging committee in every university or institution, and maintaining strict compliance in respect of all regulations regarding hearing and surveillance related to various student problems such as fee structure, admission policies, and discrimination. Information regarding the proceedings of these committees is to be posted on the website of the UGC.
UGC has tightened its supervision over various universities and colleges due to an increased number of student complaints. According to a report, the UGC has received nearly 4,500 complaints regarding non-refund of fees in the last three years alone. The highest number of complaints pertain to the year 2024-25.
