Religious Conversion and SC Status: Supreme Court Declines to Revisit Landmark March 2026 Judgment
The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking review of the decision that held that conversion to a religion other than Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism would result in the loss of Scheduled Caste status.

The Supreme Court declined to examine a decision which held that any member of a Scheduled Caste, who converted to any religion apart from Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism, would be considered a non-Scheduled Caste member from the day he converted.
According to Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan Singh, there were no mistakes made in the decision rendered on March 24, 2026, that needed rectification.
In its order dated July 15, the Supreme Court stated, "The petition seeking an oral hearing on the review petition is dismissed."
