Odisha's college campuses are set to vote again. The state's Higher Education department has announced students' union elections for the 2026–27 session, to be held on October 15, the first regular polls since 2017.
The 2018 cycle was cancelled after incidents of campus violence and then Cyclone Titli. The process stayed suspended through the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent change of government.

Who Can Contest
- Only eligible regular students
- Undergraduates aged 17–22; postgraduates up to 25
- At least 75% attendance and no academic arrears in the year of contest
- No criminal record or pending disciplinary proceedings
- Students in Distance Education or PPP-mode programmes are not eligible
The Code of Conduct
- Complete separation from political parties, with no party funding
- Maximum spending of ₹5,000 per candidate
- No printed posters or pamphlets
- No appeals to caste or communal feelings, bribery or intimidation
- No canvassing within 100 metres of polling stations
- No false, misleading, manipulated or AI-generated fake content on social media
- Candidates must jointly clean the polling area within 48 hours, or pay a ₹1,500 penalty each
Violations can lead to cancellation of candidature or the elected post, along with disciplinary action.
