Monsoon Arrives in Northeast India, Covers Several States After Brief Delay

There are forecasts for rain in certain parts of the northeast, Andaman and Nicobar islands, Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, sub-Himalayan Bengal, Sikkim, and Puducherry over the coming few days. The monsoon season is forecast to be heavier than average for the northeastern states.

On the other hand, the Meteorological Department issued an alert to Tamil Nadu regarding heavy to very heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning, and wind blowing up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour.

The Nilgiris, Theni, and Dindigul districts, as well as Coimbatore district, are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruppur, Madurai, and Kanyakumari districts.

An 'Orange' alert for Idukki: According to ANI, the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert on Sunday in Kerala's Idukki district, anticipating heavy rainfall over the next few days.

An orange alert means heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely. An orange alert is typically issued when rainfall between 64.5 mm and 204.4 mm is expected in a 24-hour period.

To protect the public from natural disasters, strict restrictions have been imposed on night travel (from 7 pm to 6 am) in hilly areas.
