Mobile PLI: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that despite providing ₹19,000 crore under the Mobile Production-Linked Incentive (PLI), the government collected only ₹3.25 lakh crore in taxes from the mobile phone industry.
The above chart is indicative of the robust growth and employment generation by electronic manufacturing in India, which has led to lower imports and higher exports.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister, on Wednesday said that the government had managed to collect a total of ₹3.25 lakh crore from the mobile phone industry in taxes. This was much higher as compared to the ₹19,000 crore allotted through Mobile Production-Linked Incentive (PLI). He responded to media criticism questioning the government's efforts to promote electronics manufacturing.
Vaishnaw shared data on X, stating that the government provided incentives worth ₹19,000 crore under the scheme. In return, beneficiaries received ₹25,000 crore in direct taxes and ₹3 lakh crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST).
