Japan's sports bike maker Kawasaki has issued a global recall of certain variants of its popular sports bike, Ninja ZX-6R. Kawasaki has done this because its serious engine-related technical flaws were discovered in some units of the 2024 and 2025 models. Kawasaki has specifically instructed current ZX-6R owners not to drive this bike until it is checked and fixed under the recall.

According to reports, the cause of this problem is the over-tightening of the crankshaft bolts in the engine during manufacturing. When the bolts are over-tightened, they directly affect the performance inside the engine. And this can also pose a safety risk while riding.

Due to reduced oil clearance around the crankshaft, wear inside the engine increases, and the risk of failure of its parts also increases. In some serious cases, this problem can cause the engine to suddenly seize while running. This can also prove to be a big danger for the rider and others on the road.

All variants of the Ninja ZX-6R have been affected by this problem. These include the KRT edition and the 40th Anniversary edition. Most units have been sold in the US, UK, and Europe. About 17,800 units in the US alone are part of this recall. The Kawasaki company is directly contacting the affected customers, and they are being informed about the next procedure.

Customers have been asked to take their bikes to the nearest authorized service center. Technicians will check the torque level of the crankshaft bolts. Parts will also be replaced if needed. This entire process will be done absolutely free, so that there is no shortage in the safety and performance of the vehicle.

Kawasaki has not yet issued any official recall regarding this problem in India. The Ninja ZX-6R was launched in the Indian market in early 2024. And its ex-showroom price has been kept at around Rs 11.5 lakh.

This bike has a 636cc inline-four DOHC engine, which is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This engine generates 129 horsepower of power and 69 Nm of peak torque.
