Jasprit Bumrah won this award for the second time for his excellent performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Jasprit Bumrah, ICC Player of Month Award for December 2024: Jasprit Bumrah took a total of 32 wickets in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia.
On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the winner of the ICC Player of the Month for December 2024. Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who took 32 wickets for India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, has been named the best player of the month in the men's category. With this, he has beaten Australia captain Pat Cummins, and South African fast bowler Dane Paterson.
Talking about December 2024, in the three Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Jasprit Bumrah single-handedly led India's bowling attack, taking an impressive 22 wickets at an astonishing average of 14.22. The Indian bowler took a total of 18 wickets in the Melbourne and Brisbane Test matches. He could take only 4 wickets in the Adelaide Test match, as the Australian team won this match in 3.2 overs while batting in the second innings.
Another player who was in the race for Player of the Month for December 2024, was Dane Paterson, who picked up 13 wickets in only 2 Tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan while Australia's Pat Cummins took 17 wickets in three matches for India. Australia and South Africa have entered the final of the World Test Championship which will be played on 11 June 2025 at Lord's in London.
In the women's category, Australia's Annabel Sutherland was given the Player of the Month award for December 2024. Indian team's star cricketer Smriti Mandhana and South Africa's N Malala were also in the race for this award, but both these players lagged behind.
Australian Annabel Sutherland played 5 matches in December and had taken 9 wickets in total. Besides, she managed to score 269 runs for her team as well. She picked six wickets and scored a total of 122 runs in the three-match ODI series against India. She grabbed 3 wickets in two ODIs against New Zealand and scored a total of 147 runs. She had been chosen as Player of the Series based on the excellent performance offered in both the series against India and New Zealand.
