India Advises Citizens in Iran to Avoid Non-Essential Travel Amid Protests
India has advised its citizens living in Iran to avoid non-essential travel in view of the current developments. The Ministry of External Affairs has asked them to stay away from areas of protests and monitor the Indian Embassy's website. The fall in the value of Iran's national currency, the rial, has led to large protests, resulting in several deaths. US President Trump has warned Iran against violence.
India on Monday advised its citizens in Iran not to indulge in non-essential travel until further notice, taking into consideration certain developments in that country.
The advisory issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, "Indian citizens and PIOs in Iran should exercise caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, and monitor news as well as the website and social media handles of the Indian Embassy in Tehran." It further states, "Indian citizens in Iran on resident visas are advised to register with the Indian Embassy if they have not already done so."
Large-scale protest rallies are happening in Iran against the devaluation of the Iranian currency, the rial. Some people have lost their lives in conflicts between the Iran security forces and protesters.
