Heinrich Klaasen said goodbye to test cricket, retired after just four matches

South Africa cricket team's wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. He will continue to represent his country in ODI and T20 formats. Klaasen started his Test career in 2019 and could play only 4 Tests.

'I spent many nights wondering whether I was making the right decision, and I have decided to retire from red-ball cricket,' Clausen said in a statement. It was a difficult decision because it was my favourite format. It was a great trip and I'm glad I represented my country. My baggy Test cap is my most valuable cricket cap ever.

Clausen played four Test matches in his career between 2019 and 2023. He played his last Test match against West Indies in the summer of last year. He scored 104 runs in eight innings of four Tests at an average of just 13, with a highest score of 35. It was believed that Clausen might get a place in the Test series against West Indies and Bangladesh to be held later this year.

Clausen is currently a part of the IPL, Hundred and MLC franchise leagues. Apart from this, he will also be a part of the domestic SA 20. Klaasen has played 85 matches in his first-class career, scoring 5,347 runs at an average of 46.09. Meanwhile, he has scored 12 centuries and 24 half-centuries. His highest score in this format was 292 runs. He was not selected for the team in the test series held against the Indian cricket team.
