GDP figures better than expected, strong growth of 8.4% in third quarter, estimated at 7.6% in FY24

According to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) on Thursday, India's gross domestic product (GDP) registered a strong growth of 8.4 per cent year-on-year during the third quarter (October-December). In the last quarter, it was 8.1 per cent. The latest GDP figures are better than analysts' expectations.

The GDP figures for the first and second quarters of the current financial year have also been revised downwards to 8.2 per cent (instead of 7.8 per cent) and 8.1 per cent (instead of 7.6 per cent) respectively. The GDP estimate for the fiscal year 2024 has also been revised upward from 7 per cent to 7.6 per cent.

NSO has also revised the GDP figures for the financial year 2022-23. It has been reduced to 7% compared to the earlier estimate of 7.2%.
