India and the Maldives are fast-tracking the bilateral relationship. Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Khalil will hold a meeting with his Indian counterpart, S Jaishankar, in New Delhi on Monday. On the occasion, Jaishankar and Khalil will discuss the progress on the economic and maritime security cooperation between the nations.

The India-Maldives Document of Vision on Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership was last year endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu. A high-level delegation accompanies Khalil, who arrived in India last evening, on his three-day visit. It is his third trip to India this year.

A statement issued by the Indian Foreign Ministry said that Khalil's visit is in connection with high-level political exchanges between India and the Maldives. He will lead his country in the second High-Level Core Group (HLCG) meeting to monitor progress in the implementation of the India-Maldives Vision Document. He will also hold bilateral talks with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.

Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu, who visited India in October 2024, talked on many issues. India also extended a helping hand. The President of the Maldives also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the bilateral currency swap agreement of US $ 400 million and the decision of the Government of India to provide assistance of Rs 30 billion (US $ 360 million).
