The Ministry of Agriculture has said this in the third advance estimate. However, due to irregular monsoon during 2023-24, the total foodgrain production has been less than the financial year 2022-23.
The Ministry of Agriculture predicts total wheat production of 11.29 crore tonnes in 2023-24, which is 91 lakh tonnes more than the previous fiscal year. Total wheat production is expected to be 112.92 crore tonnes, up 2.37 crore tonnes from 2022-23 levels.
Rice production is expected to reach 136.7 crore tonnes, up from 135.75 crore tonnes in 2022-23. Rice production has grown by 9.45 lakh tonnes.
Millets production is expected to be 17.40 crore tonnes in 2023-24, a decrease of 87 thousand tonnes over 2022-23.
The production of pulses has increased during the last financial year. During this period, the production of 33.85 lakh tons of Arhar (Toor) dal is estimated and there can be an increase of 73 thousand tons.
The production of Masoor dal is estimated to be 17.54 lakh tons. This is 1.95 lakh tons more than last year. Similarly, the production of soybean is estimated to be 1.30 crore tons and mustard production is estimated to be 1.31 crore tons.
