Cheteshwar Pujara, India's experienced batsman has described left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal as the most important player of the visiting team before the Perth Test. He believes that if India has to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the third consecutive time, then Yashasvi Jaiswal will have to show his strength.

Cheteshwar Pujara said on Star Sports about Jaiswal's role in the Indian team, "Yashasvi is probably one of the most talented cricketers in India. I am sure that he has a lot to prove in the future, especially while playing overseas. But he will play an important role in this special series. If we have to win the series, his role is the most important. He is an aggressive player. He can play the same role that David Warner used to play for the Australian team.”

“I think his batting will be important. Even in India when we were losing the series but he batted well. He is the X factor of the Indian batting order. I am sure he will be successful. There will be challenges throughout this series, but he is mentally strong,” he added.

He prepares really well. He hits shots on many balls and loves to bat. I really believe that he has a long way to go for the Indian team in all formats. Not only in the Test format but in all formats I think he will be very successful over time." Jaiswal has played 14 Tests so far for India in which he scored 1407 runs including three centuries and eight half-centuries. He has become India's first-choice opener in red-ball cricket alongside captain Rohit Sharma.

But with Rohit's absence in the opening match of the series due to the birth of his second child, the responsibility falls on vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah, who will be leading the team in Perth. Pujara also praised Bumrah, saying that the latter understands the match situation quite well and would do the job nicely in the absence of the regular captain.

He said, "He is a great player. Bumrah is a very smart player. As a bowler, you should be well aware of your strength and strategy. Whenever he scores runs, he always tries to take wickets. When you want to take wickets as a bowler, you should think about the game."
