Adani Green Becomes First Indian Renewable Energy Company to Cross 20 GW Operational Capacity

He emphasized the need to accelerate electrification through renewable energy to enhance energy security, improve transmission, and provide reliable, round-the-clock clean power. This achievement comes within a decade of the commissioning of AGEL's first renewable energy project in Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, in 2016. This is the largest and fastest greenfield renewable energy capacity addition in India.

AGEL added 5,051 megawatts (MW) of capacity in FY2026, the highest annual renewable capacity addition by any company outside China. The company's operating portfolio includes approximately 14.2 GW of solar power. It also has 2.7 GW of wind power and 3.3 GW of wind-solar hybrid capacity. This diversification reflects the company's strong position.

AGEL has created a battery storage system with a capacity of 3.55 GWh of batteries. This is the biggest project of this kind in the world excluding China, and also the fastest project. Sagar Adani explained that battery storage will become increasingly important for providing clean and reliable energy due to the development of renewables in the Indian energy sector.

The plan of AGEL is to install 10 GWh of battery storage during the fiscal year 2027. During five years, the company is planning to accumulate 50 GWh, which will allow it to reach its objective of 50 GW of renewables by 2030. The next stage of growth for AGEL is the region of Khavda in Kutch, Gujarat, where the largest renewable energy plant will be installed.
