There have been reports of bird flu cases in several parts of Kerala. The government of Tamil Nadu, a neighbouring state, has become vigilant due to the growing outbreak in Kerala. The state government has stepped up surveillance in border areas to deal with this, according to news agency IANS. According to a government official, there has been a directive to enhance security in the areas of Anaikatti, Gopalapuram, and Walayar.

He said 12 police officers have been deployed at each check post in these areas and all vehicles reaching Tamil Nadu are being checked. Animal husbandry officials of Tamil Nadu said that when cases of bird flu are reported in neighbouring states, the Tamil Nadu government becomes alert.

Officials said that veterinary doctors and paramedical team members are part of the team and the people are being thoroughly examined. He further said that no vehicle loaded with poultry and animals is allowed to cross the checkpost.

He said there are more than 1200 poultry farms in Coimbatore district, bordering Kerala, due to which the department is taking extra precautions to prevent any outbreak in the state. It is known that the Kerala Health Department has reportedly killed 21,000 ducks in Edathua and Cheruthuna in Alappuzha district.
