Big relief to Delhi-NCR passengers; MCD toll booths can be removed
Toll Collection: People who travel daily between Delhi and NCR cities can get big relief soon.

Daily commuters of Delhi to NCR cities are soon likely to get relief. Taxis presently have to either pay entry fees of Rs 100 to enter Delhi. Or get stuck up in long queues at the MCD booths built on the border where green taxes are being imposed.
According to media reports, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is going to instruct the MCD to remove the toll collection points built on the borders of Delhi from the main highway. This is because these toll booths slow down the speed of traffic on the highway. NH9 connecting Delhi to Ghaziabad and Noida and NH48 connecting Delhi-Gurugram are the busiest highways, on which the effect of this change can be clearly seen.
According to the report, the Central Government, Road Transport Ministry and Haryana Government are planning to appeal to the Supreme Court together. In this appeal, it will be requested that the toll collection points be shifted away from the border. And the order related to Environmental Compensation Charge (ECC) given in 2015 should be changed. This ECC is taken only from commercial vehicles, not from taxis.
MCD collects ECC currently at five major points on the Delhi borders - Gurugram's border of Sirhaul, Ghazipur (NH9), Badarpur (NH19), Tikri (NH10) and Kundli (N44). The report states that due to these toll points, there is huge jam in the region.
The matter has been debated with the Delhi and Haryana governments in recent years by the central government. It now lies with the stand of the Supreme Court and as soon as the NHAI and the MCD are capable of initiating such changes. If this plan materializes, then lakhs of commuters of Delhi-NCR can get huge relief from jams.
