Nine bookies from Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, who used online apps for cricket betting, have been arrested. The main accused is still absconding. Police seized the currency of seven countries along with Rs 14.58 crore in cash.
In fact, so much cash was discovered at two sites that officers remained counting notes from late Thursday night to Friday morning. More than 3,000 packets of 500 rupees were found. The accused was arrested in possession of seven kilogrammes of silver, 41 mobile phones, 19 computers, five Mac minis, one iPad, national and international SIM cards, two pen drives, three memory cards, and other items. They are connected to the national and international betting markets, as well as accounts for transactions worth crores.
Inspector General of Police Santosh Kumar Singh stated that the team received information on Thursday that some people from Punjab, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh had been operating international betting with Piyush Chopra in the duplex of 19 Dreams Colony for several days. The police team raided there. The accused were arrested while betting on the Bangladesh and Netherlands match of the T-20 World Cup.
The main accused Piyush Chopra was running the betting for a long time. Six months ago, he brought henchmen from Ludhiana, Neemuch, Nimbahera and Rajasthan to Ujjain. During the match, the bookies used to keep live communication through the Zoom app. Betting of Rs 50,000 to 25 lakh was done at a time. Piyush Chopra also deals in property. Passport, credit card, debit card and betting account documents along with cash were seized from his house.
