Air India Flight from Milan to Delhi Cancelled After Technical Glitch, Passengers Stranded

The Diwali festivities of 255 passengers who were set to go back to Delhi from Milan, Italy, were marred. A technical glitch on the Air India Dreamliner flight led to the cancellation of the flight on Friday. As a result of the plane failure, the travelers were left stranded in Milan, but one passenger was flown back on another flight with special authorization.

An Air India flight (AI-138) from Delhi to Milan had a technical issue prior to its departure. The flight took off from Delhi as AI-137 at 2:54 pm and arrived in Italy after around nine hours. There was, however, a technical fault found upon landing that could not be fixed within time. Accordingly, the return flight had to be cancelled.

The incident affected the travel plans of approximately 256 passengers and more than 10 crew members. One passenger, whose Schengen visa was expiring on October 20th, was immediately rebooked on another flight to ensure they could reach India before their visa expired. The remaining passengers are being accommodated on flights scheduled for October 20th or later.

Air India issued a statement stating that passenger safety is its top priority. AI-138 was cancelled due to an extended technical requirement. All affected passengers have been provided hotel accommodation, although some arrangements had to be made away from the airport due to limited space. The airline said that all passengers are being provided with food and ground assistance.

Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner (VT-ANN) has previously experienced technical glitches on long-haul routes. The company's aging wide-body fleet remains its biggest challenge. Previously, another Dreamliner aircraft had experienced a technical problem, prompting the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to seek information from Boeing.

Passengers hoping to return to India before Diwali are now facing an additional wait. Many passengers have expressed their displeasure on social media regarding the technical glitches and inconveniences faced by Air India. However, Air India has assured that every effort is being made to bring all passengers back to India safely and promptly.
