The online marketplace Zomato, which sells food items, has made news once more. To address the needs of customers who prefer vegetarian food, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Deepinder Goyal announced on Tuesday that the 'Pure Veg Mode' service is being launched. The business encountered strong opposition in this regard.

Goyal launched the new service citing the response from vegetarian customers. He revealed that customers in India who adhere to a strictly vegetarian diet will soon have access to the "Pure Veg Fleet," which is being introduced by the online platform. Additionally, Zomato's fully vegan fleet will use green bins rather than the customary red ones.

After this announcement, Zomato is getting a lot of business on the social media platform. Many people are opposing it. Let us know why the company decided to start a pure veg fleet? Why is this move being criticized?

Deepinder Goyal said, 'India has the highest percentage of vegetarian population in the world. The most important feedback we have received from them is that they are very serious about how their food is cooked and how their food is delivered. Many times, non-veg food goes into the box by mistake, the smell of which causes discomfort to people. Hence the decision to launch Pure Veg Fleet was taken to address their dietary preferences.

Goyal shared that the 'pure vegetarian medium' includes selecting restaurants that serve exclusively vegetarian food, excluding any establishments offering non-vegetarian items. He clarified that his step is not for any religious or political preferences.

However, the Zomato CEO has been criticized by a section on social media for this move. Amid growing opposition, Goyal clarified that the feature could lead to some housing societies and groups of residents banning the entry of regular Zomato delivery agents who wear red T-shirts and have red boxes on their vehicles.

He said Zomato's all-vegan fleet will have green bins and not the traditional red bins. He clarified that these food supply persons will exclusively deliver orders from pure vegetarian restaurants and will not handle any non-vegetarian food. Moreover, they will also not enter a non-vegetarian restaurant with a green box.

Goyal said that Zomato will remain alert for any such issue and will work with residents to prevent it from happening. He said, 'We understand our social responsibility due to this change and we will do our best to resolve it if needed. Will not back down. I promise that if we see any significant negative social consequences of this change, we will roll it back.

He said he has received an overwhelmingly positive response to the new service from many people. Goyal said that we have received positive comments from many non-veg eaters that now our parents will also be able to use Zomato.
