Ashwini Vaishnav said- Law will be made to control AI, advisory will be issued after elections

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently causing issues for many nations worldwide, not just India. Laws against AI and deepfakes have long been discussed in India. After the results of the general elections, India can begin the process of enacting laws governing artificial intelligence (AI), according to Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav. Elections are another setting in which deepfakes can be employed. In this case, the government ought to introduce legislation in this area even prior to the elections.

India intends to establish some sort of regulatory framework to address the numerous problems that have arisen as a result of the development of technology. Notably, this comes just a month after the Indian government issued an advisory asking tech companies to seek "explicit permission" before deploying under-tested or untrusted AI models in the country.

In an interview with The Economic Times, Vaishnav talked about the government's plan to create a larger regulatory framework for AI. “One idea is to create a self-regulatory body, but we don't think that will be enough,” he said. We are of the view that this regulation should be done through legislative methods. We have already consulted tech companies. “After the elections, we will begin a formal consultation process and move toward legislation.”
