The star batsman of India, Smriti Mandhana has been selected among the contenders for the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year due to her excellent performance. She has been nominated along with South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt, Australia's Annabel Sutherland, and Sri Lanka's Chamari Atapattu for the annual honor for the 50-over format.

Two centuries against South Africa in Bengaluru in June gave impetus to Mandhana's 2024 campaign. The left-handed batsman scored two more centuries at the end of the year. She remained in good form till December. Mandhana scored a total of 343 runs in three innings against South Africa. After the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, she scored her third century of 2024 with a 100 in the final match of India's home series against New Zealand. Another century came in the final match of her team's three-match series with Australia in December, but it went in vain as the Aussies swept the series 3-0.

Wolvaardt started the year with just seven runs in three innings against Australia, but that poor form did not last long. The South African captain scored in almost every ODI after that series. She scored two unbeaten centuries against Sri Lanka and three centuries in four matches against India in Bengaluru in June. After another half-century against India, Wolvaardt concluded her 2024 campaign with three excellent scores against England on home soil in December.

The 23-year-old Sutherland started the year with two wickets in Australia's victory over India in Mumbai, and then her bat remained silent through the three-match series at home against South Africa in March. Still, Australia won 2-1. Opportunities were few for Sutherland during Australia's white-ball tour of Bangladesh in March, although the talented all-rounder scored an unbeaten 58 in a comfortable win in the series opener in Mirpur.

Sutherland shone in the series against India at home and New Zealand at the end of the year. The youngster scored centuries in consecutive matches against these teams. She won the Player of the Series for her efforts against the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team.

Chamari Atapattu played her maiden ODI in April 2024 and scored 51* and an unbeaten 195 in the 1-1 away series against South Africa. The 34-year-old carried the good form in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, scoring 130 runs and picking up 4 wickets as Sri Lanka won 3-0. Atapattu signed off on 2024 in ODIs on a high, with 48 runs and three wickets with the ball as Sri Lanka won their final ODI of the year in Belfast.
