Shubman Gill Named Captain for India’s Test Series vs West Indies, Jadeja Vice-Captain
Team India Squad for West Indies Test Series: There have been some major changes to India's Test squad selected for the West Indies. Karun Nair, Sai Sudarshan, and Akashdeep have been dropped from the team, while Devdutt Padikkal has returned.
Team India was named on Thursday for the West Indies Test series. The Senior National Selection Committee, led by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, named the side for the two-Test tour of the West Indies. Some key changes have been made to the Indian team. Shubman Gill has been entrusted with the leadership of the Indian team. Ravindra Jadeja has been made vice-captain. Shreyas Iyer's name is missing from the squad for the third time. But this time, the cause of his absence is Iyer himself.
Karun Nair, Sai Sudarshan, and Akashdeep, who flopped during the Australia tour, have been dropped from the squad, while Devdutt Padikkal has returned to Team India. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has not yet recovered, so Narayan Jagadeesan has been named in his place. Axar Patel has also returned to the Test squad. The first Test between Team India and West Indies will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from October 2 to 6. The second and final Test will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10 to 14.
Shreyas Iyer was also expected to be selected in this squad. However, before the selection, he wrote a letter to the BCCI requesting a six-month break from red-ball cricket. Iyer is recovering from an injury, and this is likely why he requested a break from long-form cricket.
