The legendary tech company Meta gave big information on Wednesday. Meta removed about 63 thousand Instagram accounts from its platform. It is being said that all these accounts were related to pornographic activities. This matter was related to the scam, which was going on in the African country of Nigeria. After this, the authority of the West African country also imposed a fine of 220 million on the company.

It involved a group of 20 people in the network of 2500 profiles that were identified among deleted accounts. Furthermore, it has removed 1300 accounts, 200 pages, and 5700 groups altogether on Facebook—also part of such activity scam. This pornographic group would blackmail people by sending them obscene photos of the opposite sex, along with a demand for money, which if not paid by the victim was threatened to be made public.

Meta has said in its statement that this group mostly targeted American adult men, as well as hiding their real identity. It is being told that Yahoo Boys was involved in the Internet Frauds Scam Account. The social media company said in its statement that when this group failed to make adults its victims, then this group started targeting teenagers as well.

Between October 2021 and March 2023, about 13 thousand such reports came in the Homeland Security investigation, which also included economic pornography. There were 12600 teenagers in this, who mostly belonged to America. At the same time, according to the FBI i.e. Federal Bureau of Investigation, 20 people were forced to commit suicide due to the incitement of this scam.

To prevent this crime, Meta announced testing an AI powered pornography protection in April. This feature works to directly protect teenagers from such activities on Instagram. Meta is also working with legal agencies to prevent such crimes.
