Responding to the comments of US officials on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia, India has said that New Delhi and Moscow have long-standing relations and in a multipolar world every country has freedom of choice.

It is worth noting that recently Prime Minister Modi went on an official visit to Russia, after which top US official Donald Lu expressed disappointment over this and said that Washington is concerned about it and is in talks with India. Now the Indian Foreign Ministry has reacted to this statement of Donald Lu.

According to the news agency ANI, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, 'We must understand that India has a long-standing relationship with Russia, which is based on each other's interests. In the current multipolar world, all countries have their freedom of choice and everyone should be aware of and appreciate such realities.

Before Donald Lu, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti also objected to PM Modi's visit. Commenting in this regard, he had said that there is no such thing as strategic autonomy in times of conflict. The US Ambassador said, 'I know that India likes its strategic autonomy and I respect that, but there is no such thing as strategic autonomy in times of conflict. In moments of crisis, we need to know each other. I don't care what title we give it, but we need to know that we are trusted friends, brothers and sisters and allies in times of need.'

Reacting to Garcetti's remarks, the Foreign Ministry had said that India values its strategic autonomy and we have our own different views. The Foreign Ministry had said that the comprehensive global strategic partnership between the two countries gives them space to agree to disagree on some issues while respecting each other's views.

Earlier, PM Modi met President Vladimir Putin on an official visit to Russia. During this, the two countries had set a target of eliminating non-tariff trade barriers and mutual trade of more than US $ 100 billion by 2030. After the meeting, the two leaders issued a joint statement and decided to continue talks on the liberalization of bilateral trade, including the possibility of establishing an EAEU-India free trade zone.
