Former Indian captain and coach Rahul Dravid has been named the new head coach of the Rajasthan Royals. This appointment was made on a multi-year contract. Rahul Dravid's tenure as India's coach came to an end after the team won the T20 World Cup in Barbados in June this year. Rahul Dravid stated at his appointment that he is delighted to be returning to the franchise that he has considered home for many years. Following the World Cup, I felt it was time to take on a new challenge, and the Rajasthan Royals were the best fit.

Rahul Dravid said in his statement that Manoj, Jake, Kumar, and the team have worked hard to bring the franchise to this point. With the talent and resources we have, we are ready to take this team to the next level. I am excited to start work soon. Dravid was associated with Rajasthan Royals for five seasons from 2011 to 2015, where he started his coaching career. Now he will work on the team's strategy with the franchise's Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara.

Sangakkara said that Rahul is one of the greatest players in cricket, but what he has achieved as a coach in the last ten years is amazing. His ability to hone the players in his coaching and prepare them to perform consistently at the top level will be extremely important for us. I have had some good talks with him on the team's future plan and he is fully prepared to deliver results.

Rahul Dravid has previously served as the Delhi Capitals' mentor. He then joined the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he led India's Under-19 team to World Cup victory in 2018 and second place in 2016. He also coached India's 'A' team before taking over as NCA cricket director. Dravid led India's senior team to top Test, ODI, and T20 rankings while serving as head coach. Won the Asia Cup in 2023 and led the team to the finals of the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship that year. His tenure concluded with the team winning the T20 World Cup this year.
