An ITBP jawan posted on security duty at Raj Bhavan in Sikkim's capital 'Gangtok' shot himself dead. Sepoy (GD) Rajaram was part of the company of the 13th battalion of the force, which is posted on security duty at the Raj Bhavan of Sikkim. A 'Court of Inquiry' has been ordered into the incident.
According to ITBP sources, Sepoy Rajaram shot himself with his rifle on the night of September 6. The body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the real reason for suicide. Sepoy Rajaram was transferred from the 38th Battalion to the 13th Battalion in July. From there, Rajaram was posted in the company on Raj Bhavan security duty. He was posted on Raj Bhavan security duty since July 3.
Sepoy Rajaram hailed from Godihan village in Bihar's Bhojpur district. The ITBP has convened a Court of Inquiry to investigate the case. The force is providing immediate financial assistance to the soldier's family in the amount of Rs 15,000 and Rs 8,000 for last rites. Following the post-mortem and other formalities, the body will be transported by road to Bihar's Bhojpur district.
