Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Director of IMD in Jammu and Kashmir, said, 'The effect of La Nina will intensify as the winter increases. Even before La Nina, there has been heavy snowfall in the Kashmir Valley, and this year, it is becoming quite intense, due to which continuous snowfall is expected.
Severe cold was also noted in Jammu and Kashmir. The traditional cold in Jammu and Kashmir starts in November. Snowfall has already taken place in the hills thrice this November. Because of the snowfall, the temperature is going down. A harsh winter, with good snowfall, due to the return of La Nina, is expected, which may increase the number of tourists. The temperature is always between zero degrees Celsius and minus 5 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD, the severe cold during Chillai Kalan will begin on December 21 and its impact will be witnessed for the next 40 days at the most. The La Nina effect will multiply the impact of cold and rain manifold in the valley this time.
