Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded a complete ban on the sale of liquor and meat near temples. VHP has written a letter to the Mayor of Delhi Municipal Corporation and called upon him to take immediate action to ban the sale of intoxicants such as liquor, cigarettes, bidi-tobacco, gutkha, and meat within a radius of hundred meters from any religious site.

VHP's Delhi Prant President Kapil Khanna has written a letter to Delhi Municipal Corporation's Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh saying that the sale of such items should be banned within a radius of hundred meters of religious places. Its sale causes great trouble to the visitors. Also, due to this, anti-social elements gather around the temple, which sometimes causes trouble for the people. Therefore, he has requested that, keeping in mind the religious sentiments of the people, a complete ban should be imposed on the sale of intoxicants around temples. Even after this, strict legal action should be taken against those who do such acts.

Kapil Khanna has said in his letter that the sale of intoxicant products around religious places disrespects the sanctity of religious places. Many times, it also becomes the cause of communal tension. He said that in many incidents, people have been found consuming these products inside the premises of religious places, which disrupts peace and harmony. He has demanded that the Municipal Corporation take immediate action on this and ban the sale of intoxicants around religious places.
