Kapil Sibal Slams Centre Over India-US Trade Deal, Says ‘Now Dependent on Trump’
Trade Deal: Kapil Sibal targeted the government over the India-US interim trade agreement, saying that the government that talked about self-reliance now appears to be dependent on Trump. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Seva Tirtha, Sibal questioned what duty the Prime Minister has fulfilled towards the country in the last 11 years.
Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the central government over the India-US interim trade agreement. He sarcastically said that the government that talked about making the country self-reliant now appears to be dependent on Trump.
At a press conference, Sibal alleged that the government has agreed to align India's foreign and economic policies with the US, something that has never happened in the country's history. He cited US executive orders indicating that a punitive tariff of 25 percent could be reimposed if India continues to purchase Russian oil.
Referring to the inauguration of Seva Teerth, Kartavya Bhawan-1 and 2 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sibal questioned what duty the Prime Minister has performed for the country over the last 11 years. He said that building buildings is a good thing, but accountability for governance and policies is also necessary.

Sibal also claimed that the government has agreed to purchase goods and services worth $500 billion from the US over the next five years and that the Prime Minister should come to Parliament and make a clear statement on this entire agreement. He also targeted the BJP, saying that the party knows how to win elections, but not how to govern.
