Vidyut Cariappa and Saurabh Kumar took three wickets each as the Rest of India stunned Cheteshwar Pujara-led Saurashtra's batting order and took a huge first-innings lead in the Irani Trophy match on Monday. At the end of the second day's play on Monday, Saurashtra had scored 212 runs for nine wickets in their first innings and were 96 runs behind Rest of India.

Rest of India led its first innings in the morning at 298 runs for eight wickets and its team was out for 308 runs after adding only 10 runs to this score. The rest of India's bowlers did not allow Saurashtra's batsmen to survive either. Cheteshwar Pujara, who was trying to make a comeback in the Indian Test team, scored only 29 runs.

Apart from Pujara, Samarth Vyas (29), Prerak Mankad (29) and Parth Bhoot (20) also touched the 20-run mark but no one could play a big innings. If Saurashtra was able to cross 200 runs, the credit for it goes to Arpit Vasavada, who played an inning of 54 runs. At the time of the uprooting of the stumps, captain Jaydev Unadkat was playing on 17 runs while Yuvraj Singh Dodhiya is yet to open his account. From the rest of India, apart from Cariappa and Saurabh, Shams Mulani has taken two wickets while Pulkit Narang has taken one wicket.
