Surrey's high-performance chief, Alec Stewart, said that initially, Sai Kishore was considered for the final stages of the tournament. However, the Tamil Nadu spinner was unavailable due to a finger injury requiring surgery. Stewart explained that Sai Kishore had a finger injury and was out of action.

Rahul Chahar last represented India in 2021. He has played only one ODI, taking three wickets at an average of 18, and six T20 Internationals with seven wickets at an average of 23.86. In domestic cricket, he has 87 wickets in 24 first-class matches. His white-ball stats are more impressive, with 106 wickets in 60 List A matches and 136 in 131 T20s. In the IPL, he has taken 79 wickets in 79 matches.
