This marks the 5th century of his Test career and the first on English soil. With this achievement, Jaiswal has attained a special feat and joined the exclusive club of West Indies greats Brian Lara and Sir Viv Richards.
This was Yashasvi Jaiswal's third Test century against England. Previously, he scored centuries against England twice in India. So far, he has accumulated a total of 813 runs in 10 innings across six matches. With this, he has now become the fourth batsman to score the most runs in the first 10 innings against England. Only West Indies' Viv Richards (1086 runs), Brian Lara (899 runs), and Frank Worrell (833 runs) are ahead of him on this list.
Yashasvi faced 144 balls for this historic century and was dismissed after scoring 101 runs off 159 balls. In this innings, 16 fours and 1 brilliant six came off his bat. He shared a 91-run partnership with KL Rahul for the first wicket, then bolstered the innings by adding 129 runs with captain Shubman Gill. However, after reaching his century, he could not carry his innings forward and was dismissed by Ben Stokes.
Yashasvi has now risen to second place on the list of Indian batsmen who have scored the most 50+ scores against England before the age of 24. He has achieved this feat 6 times so far, while Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 8 scores of 50 or more. With this achievement, he has surpassed legends like Kapil Dev, Mohammad Azharuddin, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Sardesai, and Rishabh Pant.
This century was Yashasvi Jaiswal's fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC). With this, he has equaled Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, who also have 5 centuries in WTC. Now only Rohit Sharma is ahead of Yashasvi, having scored 9 centuries in WTC so far. Additionally, Jaiswal has reached third place among Indian batsmen for the most Test centuries on foreign soil by the age of 23.
