Govt to Procure 100% of Mung, Sesame, Peanuts in UP; Soybean, Mung, Peanuts in Gujarat

The central government announced that it will buy 100% of mung bean, sesame, and peanuts from Uttar Pradesh and soybean, mung bean, and peanuts from Gujarat. This will lead to the procurement of fruits and vegetables worth ₹13,890.60 crore from both states, helping the farmers.

Union Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the procurement of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat's major pulses and oilseeds crops for Kharif 2025-26 has been sanctioned. He instructed the states to carry out the whole procurement process transparently in the best interest of farmers.

Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi and Gujarat Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel also attended the virtual meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Union Minister. At the request of the states, Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi and senior agriculture officials from the central and both state governments deliberated.

The agriculture ministers of both states said that the produce will be procured through digital portals with modern biometric authentication and POS machines.

Shivraj said that it should be ensured that the purchase is made only from genuine farmers, ensuring that middlemen do not take advantage. The purchase will be done through e-Samriddhi and e-Samyukti, so that the money goes directly into the account.
