Google to Launch $1B Mega Data Hub in Visakhapatnam, Boosting India’s Digital Future

Technology giant Google is investing a record amount in India's digital economy. The company will build a mega data center campus of 1 gigawatt (1 GW) capacity in Visakhapatnam. It will be the biggest data hub not just in India but in Asia.

According to reports, this cluster will be located across three separate campuses: Adavivaram and Tarluwada (Visakhapatnam district) and Rambilli (Anakapalli district). This mega data hub of Google is expected to be fully operational by July 2028.

Google's investment will not be limited to just the data center. The project will also include the construction of three high-capacity submarine cables, cable landing stations, a metro fiber network, and state-of-the-art telecom infrastructure.

This plan is a major step towards making Andhra Pradesh a "data infrastructure hub." Following the signing of an MoU between Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Google in December 2024, the state government initiated the process of amending the IT and Copyright Acts to accelerate "data city" development.

The state's Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister Naidu himself, is expected to approve the proposal soon. Meanwhile, a meeting between Google's top leadership and Andhra Pradesh's IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled for October 14 in New Delhi to finalize the project.
