The All-India Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers (CPI-AL) and Rural Labourers (CPI-RL) recorded a 5-point increase in November, reaching the level of 1320 and 1331 respectively. The year-on-year inflation rate based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL for the month of November was recorded at 5.35 percent and 5.47 percent respectively.
It was 7.37 percent and 7.13 percent in November 2023. The corresponding rates of CPI-AL and CPI-RL stood at 5.96 percent and 6.00 percent respectively during October 2024. All sub-indices—food; betel nut; fuel and light; clothing, bedding, and footwear; and miscellaneous increased in November 2023 for both agricultural and rural laborers.
Basically, the CPI-AL is used to revise minimum wages for agricultural workers in different states. Presently, the base of the CPI-AL is 1986-87. Like all other consumer price indices, the consumption pattern of agricultural laborers has also changed over a period of time.
