Complaints in lakhs of cyber fraud cases but arrests are less than one percent, know the reason

Government officials are concerned about the rising number of cybercrimes. Data on cyber fraud has been shockingly revealed recently. As per the National Cyber Crime Portal, also known as NCRP, approximately 31 lakh complaints of cyber fraud were received between 2020 and February 2024. In cyber fraud cases, the most concerning development during this time was the low number of arrests.

According to government data, criminals could be arrested in less than 1 percent of the total cases of cyber fraud. Around 66 thousand FIRs were registered by different agencies to prevent cybercrime across the country. But till this year, arrests have been made in only 500 cases.

This issue has been raised in separate meetings of the Home Ministry and Finance Ministry of the country. Less arrests of criminals in cyber fraud cases is a matter of great concern. In this too, loan-giving apps cause great harm to the economy and structure of the country. A major reason for the slowness in catching people committing cyber fraud through loan apps is the slow pace of the investigation of cases.
