Australia's batsman all-rounder Glenn Maxwell won't be play cricket for a long time
Glenn Maxwell hamstring injury: Maxwell was injured while fielding during the third T20I against Pakistan in Hobart on Monday. He was seen at Bellerive Oval holding his hamstring and limping during the match.
Australia's batsman all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has suffered a major setback as scans revealed a grade two tear in his left hamstring, casting doubt over his availability for the start of the Big Bash League (BBL).
While Maxwell injured himself during the third T20I against Pakistan in Hobart on Monday. Maxie was seen holding his hamstring and limping out in extreme pain during the third T20 International between Australia and Pakistan at Bellerive Oval on Monday.
That also hampers Maxwell's chances of a comeback to Test cricket ahead of Australia's two-match series in Sri Lanka next February 2025, given he hasn't played Test cricket since 2017. More importantly, it likely means he'll miss the Sheffield Shield match with Victoria he was going to play as a hit-out into the BBL season.
Cricket Victoria confirmed to Australian newswire, news.com.au on Wednesday that the injury keeps the 36-year-old far away from actions for a minimum period of four weeks at a time, which is crucial ahead of the BBL and the upcoming international schedule.
Melbourne Stars begin their Big Bash League season against Perth Scorchers on December 15. Maxwell has been racing against time to be fit for the opening game of the season. The batting all-rounder was also in the plans, which the selectors had for the Prime Minister's XI team against India in Canberra in less than 10 days.
Maxwell had expressed optimism about his Test comeback earlier this year. “They are quite open to selecting out of the box for players who do well in those conditions,” he had said in August. “You need to have a really solid game plan against spin and a really good idea of how to deal with them in those conditions.”
