Accident during Sunabesha festival in Puri Rath Yatra, one dead; more than 70 injured
Puri Rath Yatra: A major accident took place amid a huge crowd during Sunabesha Darshan in Puri. One person died in the accident. According to the report, one devotee died after falling due to fear of a monkey, while more than 70 people were injured. The condition of a woman among the injured is critical.

A large crowd assembled in Puri on Sunday during the 'Sunabesha' (gold dress) festival of Rath Yatra. In the meantime, a number of accidents occurred in which one devotee lost his life and over 70 persons were injured. The dead body has been identified as belonging to 52-year-old Babaji Behera, a resident of Jagatsinghpur district. He was observing 'Sunabesha' along with his wife from Radhaballabh Math near Singhdwar of Jagannath temple. Then, out of nowhere, a monkey appeared, and he tripped and got a severe head injury.
He was first taken to Puri District Hospital, but when his condition worsened, he was taken to SCB Medical College in Cuttack. He died on the way. Doctors declared him dead at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, more than 70 other people were also injured in various accidents. About 40 of these people have broken bones. The condition of a woman is said to be critical. Many people were discharged from the hospital after primary treatment.
This accident happened a week after the incident when three devotees died and 50 others were injured in a stampede near the Gundicha temple. Meanwhile, six people-including three children, came under the wheels of the chariot and were injured while pulling the chariot during the 'Bahuda Yatra' (chariot return festival) in Binika town of Subarnapur district.
