30th Kolkata International Film Festival showcasing a total of 175 films from 29 countries on December 4
30th Kolkata International Film Festival: The 30th Kolkata International Film Festival will begin in Kolkata on December 4. Which will be held till December 11, during this time films from many countries will also be shown. France is the main country this year.
The capital of West Bengal, Kolkata, is all set to host the 30th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). This time, it is going to be held from December 4, continuing up to December 11. During this, 175 films from 29 countries will be screened. France will be the focal attraction this time. Special focuses have been given to the films from France.
The logo and theme song of the 30th KIFF were released here at the Ravindra Sadan by Minister of State Arup Biswas, Minister and Co-Chief Advisor Indranil Sen, KIFF member, and Festival President Gautam Ghosh on Friday. Minister Arup Biswas said that 127 feature films and 28 short and documentary films will be showcased during this time. It will also include a package of films in Indian languages and Bengali panorama films that take part in the international competition. This time, there will be 290 shows in total. The festival will be held at 20 different venues in Kolkata.
On this occasion, KIFF co-chief advisor Indranil Sen said, "Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, since 2011, gave a new dimension to KIFF. It is no longer limited to one place, it is staged in different auditoriums." He added, "It was the dream of the Chief Minister to make West Bengal the gateway to Indian culture, and we are proud that she did it successfully.".
At the same time, KIFF President Gautam Ghosh said, that during the entire festival, there will be several interactive sessions, seminars, and symposia. Vidya Balan also will debate in one such session with Sangeeta Dutta. R Balki is going to deliver a lecture on Satyajit Ray. France is the main country this year. Some young filmmakers are coming from France. We will try to hold interactive sessions with all the lady filmmakers of France.
A special section of the festival is screenings of works by contemporary French women filmmakers. The scheduled headliners include directors such as Caroline Vignal, Céline Rouzet, and Élise Otzenberger presenting their latest works. Classics from the French will be screened as well.
