The Gujarat Giants, in a high-scoring encounter, secured a win against the Delhi Capitals by a mere 4 runs, courtesy of a thrilling encounter that took place at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Gujarat won the match but the match belonged to the young Delhian Nandani Sharma who made history with her deadly bowling skills. The most thrilling part of the match occurred in the last over of the Gujarat Giants’ match. Nandani Sharma, the 24-year-old medium pacer from Chandigarh, took three successive wickets in the last three balls of the 20th over. She thus achieved a hat-trick. Nandani took four wickets in this over, registering her first five-wicket haul in the WPL. She took 5 wickets for 33 runs in her 4-over spell. With this, she joined the elite club of Issy Wong, Deepti Sharma, and Grace Harris, who have taken hat-tricks in the league.
Earlier, Gujarat Giants, after losing the toss and batting first, posted a mammoth total of 209 runs. Sophie Devine was the architect of Gujarat's innings, smashing 32 runs off a single over from Sneh Rana. Devine played a blistering innings of 95 runs off just 42 balls, including 8 sixes and 7 fours. She was well supported by captain Ashleigh Gardner, who contributed a crucial 49 runs.
