The World Cup has returned after a long gap of 27 years in Pune, Maharashtra. The 17th match of the World Cup 2023 between India and Bangladesh is being played at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The enthusiasm among the audience here is palpable. People from all over the country have reached the stadium to watch the match.

Both the matches were played at Nehru Stadium. MCA Stadium is hosting a World Cup match for the first time.

Pune had the privilege of hosting the 1987 and 1996 World Cups. There was a clash between England and Kenya in the 1987 World Cup. Then England defeated Kenya by eight wickets. Graham Gooch played a match-winning inning of 61 runs in 79 balls and received the Player of the Match award. England chased the target of 219 runs in this match.

Pune's Nehru Stadium hosted the match between West Indies and Kenya in the 1996 World Cup. The West Indies team was the victim of an upset in this match. Kenya had set a target of 167 runs for the West Indies, chasing which the Caribbean team was all out for just 93 runs.

Morris Odumbe was named Player of the Match, taking the important wickets of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Jimmy Adams, and Roger Harper. Rajab Ali also supported Odumbe well by taking three wickets.
