Nine Workers Dead After Ammonia Leak at Private Fish Processing Facility Near Chennai
The death toll from an ammonia gas leak at a seafood company in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur district has risen to nine. A total of 80 people were affected by the incident, with 69 still undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
There was a huge accident due to leakage of ammonia gas in a privately owned fishery industry in the district of Tiruvallur (near Periyapalayam). The casualty has gone up to nine people as one more employee succumbed to the leakage at the site yesterday morning as per the reports from the Health Department.
The leakage took place last night on 21st June in the factory situated in the Kannigaiper-Manjankaranai region. Several workers who were present in shifts faced the leakage.
According to reports, a total of 80 people were exposed to the gas. Two people died on the night of the incident (June 21). The death toll rose to six by Monday evening, and with three more workers succumbing on Tuesday morning, the total number of fatalities has reached nine.
