'Supreme' hearing against the order to increase the number of voters at every booth; EC's decision challenged
Supreme Court: The Election Commission's decision has been challenged by Induprakash Singh in the Supreme Court through a PIL, which will be considered by a bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar.

A PIL pending before the Supreme Court Monday has challenged a decision taken by the Election Commission last month increasing the maximum number of voters per polling station across the country from 1,200 to 1,500. The Election Commission had increased the number at booths through two orders issued on August 14 and August 29 this year.
This decision of the Commission has been challenged by Induprakash Singh in the Supreme Court through a PIL, which will be considered by a bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar. Singh has claimed in the petition that the decision to increase the number of voters is arbitrary which is not based on any logical data.
Earlier on October 24, the apex court had refused to issue any notice to the Commission on the petition but had allowed Singh to provide a copy of the petition to the standing counsel of the Commission so that the stand of the Commission on the issue could be known.
