India’s former captain Sunil Gavaskar has suggested that Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy should be dropped for the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He says that Abhishek is out of form and is getting out in the same manner. So, he should be dropped. He says that Varun Chakravarthy is mentally not confident, so he should be dropped.

Abhishek Sharma, aged 25, has been struggling throughout the tournament. He has managed to score just 89 runs at an average of 12.71. His score would have been lower if he hadn’t scored a half-century against Zimbabwe in the Super 8s. He has been dismissed for a duck three times in the tournament, while he has lost his wicket to spinners four times in the T20 World Cup.

Gavaskar told India Today that this is a very difficult decision. Abhishek Sharma is the number one batsman in the ICC T20 rankings, but he hasn't learned anything from his dismissals. He repeatedly gets out in the same areas where he doesn't have room. He said that bowlers are targeting the same areas and forcing him into errors. "My concern is that either he hasn't adjusted yet or he can't change his approach."

Gavaskar said that he would like to replace Abhishek with Rinku Singh, and that Ishan Kishan could open with Sanju Samson in the final. He said that Rinku feels the same way; you've probably seen the 'God's Plan' tattoo on his body, and sometimes things work out for players like him.

Apart from Abhishek, the Indian team management will also have to make a decision on Varun Chakravarthy, who has been out of form since the start of the Super 8 stage. The spinner conceded over 60 runs in his four overs against England in the semi-final, and it remains to be seen whether the management will replace him with Kuldeep Yadav.

Gavaskar said that the other change he would consider is bringing in Kuldeep Yadav. Varun Chakravarthy's confidence seems to be shattered at the moment. Since facing strong teams after the Super 8 stage, he has struggled and conceded a lot of runs. On a ground like the Narendra Modi Stadium, which has large boundaries, Kuldeep Yadav could be a good option, as he can turn the ball even on flat surfaces.
