Sunil Gavaskar Urges India to Drop Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy Before T20 World Cup Final
Sunil Gavaskar on T20 World Cup Final: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes India should make two changes for the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He said that Rinku Singh and Kuldeep Yadav would be good options, leaving out the out-of-form Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy.
India’s former captain Sunil Gavaskar has suggested that Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy should be dropped for the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He says that Abhishek is out of form and is getting out in the same manner. So, he should be dropped. He says that Varun Chakravarthy is mentally not confident, so he should be dropped.
Abhishek Sharma, aged 25, has been struggling throughout the tournament. He has managed to score just 89 runs at an average of 12.71. His score would have been lower if he hadn’t scored a half-century against Zimbabwe in the Super 8s. He has been dismissed for a duck three times in the tournament, while he has lost his wicket to spinners four times in the T20 World Cup.
Gavaskar told India Today that this is a very difficult decision. Abhishek Sharma is the number one batsman in the ICC T20 rankings, but he hasn't learned anything from his dismissals. He repeatedly gets out in the same areas where he doesn't have room. He said that bowlers are targeting the same areas and forcing him into errors. "My concern is that either he hasn't adjusted yet or he can't change his approach."
