Sharp is also looking for land of more than 1000 acres in many parts of the country to set up the unit. Currently, display fabs are not manufactured in India and India completely imports display fabs. Display fabs are used in television monitors and other such devices.
After Micron, now Japan's big tech company Sharp, involved in semiconductor manufacturing, can invest in India. Recently, a meeting was held between Sharp officials along with officials of the Ministry of Electronics and IT of the Government of India regarding this investment.
Sharp is also looking for land of more than 1000 acres in many parts of the country to set up the unit. According to ministry sources, Sharp is planning to set up a display fab manufacturing unit in India and this could be Sharp's largest unit outside Japan. Sharp will build cutting-edge display fabs in India.
Currently, display fabs are not manufactured in India and India completely imports display fabs. Display fab is used in televisions, monitors and other such devices. According to sources, considering the level of units Sharp wants to set up in India, an investment of $3-6 billion can be expected. Sharp plans to set up a unit in India to manufacture its Series-10 display fab, the latest version of the display fab.
The Series 10 screen can be used on any device other than mobile phones. The television market is changing rapidly in the world and the demand for large-screen televisions with flat-panel displays is increasing in India. According to ministry sources, it may take six to eight months for Sharp's investment to materialize.
Influenced by India's investment policy, Sharp has planned to set up a unit here. Soon the company is going to send a written investment plan to the government. On the other hand, according to ministry sources, the government is currently not going to allow private companies to do business in satellite communication services.
The government believes that any company will be given permission to enter this service only after a thorough investigation of what threats there may be to both external and internal security from satellite communication service. Elon Musk's Starlink wants to enter satellite communication service in India and the company has also applied to the government for this.
