The Supreme Court on Friday refused to consider a plea seeking direction to the Center to frame guidelines for 'protection' of Hindu religion in India. A bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said the apex court was not inclined to entertain a petition with such a prayer.

The apex court referred to the prayer made in the petition which sought direction to the Government of India authorities to frame guidelines for the protection of Hindu religion here. The bench said, "Some will say protect Islam in India. Some will say protect Christianity in India."

The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by a Uttar Pradesh-based individual. The petitioner appeared in person to argue in the court. When the petitioner referred to the educational curriculum, the bench said that it was the job of the government to determine the curriculum.

The bench said that the petitioner cannot say that others should do what he wants. Dismissing the plea, the apex court said, "You did something, you created something, you can promote it. No one is stopping you. But you cannot say that everyone should do it."
