In the Lok Sabha elections, voters over 85 years old and those with disabilities exceeding 40% will be allowed to cast their ballots from home, according to a statement made by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Saturday. This facility is being made available for the Lok Sabha elections for the first time.
The Chief Election Commissioner said people above 85 years of age will be able to vote at home. We will send Form 12D to their home to choose the option. If they choose to vote from home, we will conduct voting for them at their residence. We have tried it earlier in assembly elections in some parts of the country, but this is the first time that it will be implemented across the country.
According to Rajiv Kumar, there are 85 lakh voters above 85 years of age in the country. The number of disabled voters is 88.4 lakh. The number of voters above 100 years of age is 21.18 lakh. Out of a total of 97.8 crore voters in the country, there are 49.72 crore male voters and 47.1 crore female voters.
