The growing tension in the India-Pakistan air is now reflected even in the sport of cricket. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently decided to host the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches of 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This decision was taken following news of an attack by an unmanned drone near the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, which left the foreign players very apprehensive.
The PCB said in an official statement on Friday that the last eight matches of the PSL will now be held in the UAE. Earlier these matches were to be played in Rawalpindi, Multan and Lahore. The board also clarified that new dates, times and venues will be shared soon.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said, "We have taken this step keeping in mind the safety of the players after the area around the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was targeted. It is our priority to address the concerns of both domestic and foreign players."
He further said, "As a responsible board, we have faced every challenge and ensured that the game of cricket continues. The safety of every player participating in the PSL is of utmost importance to us."
On Thursday, the PCB canceled the match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings to be played in Rawalpindi. British media reports have claimed that several English players involved in the league are considering leaving the tournament midway due to security concerns.
