The gas leakage from Assam's oil well for the past few days has been controlled. This is what Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) states. The company ensured that the gas flow rate had reduced significantly. The leakage had started on 12th June from well number RDS-147A of the Rudrasagar oil field.

The CUDD Pressure Control team reached the spot on Friday. They reviewed the actions of the ONGC teams. ONGC said that the experts have agreed on the strategy and implementation adopted so far. They have confirmed the effectiveness of ONGC's approach for the safe management of the well. Extensive preparations are underway to facilitate the next phase of action.

ONGC said that the process of removing the tubulars from the well has started. Water blanketing is going on around the clock, keeping in mind safety. Apart from this, the flood level of the nearby river is being monitored. We are fully ensuring that all the work is done under environmental and safety protocols. The company further said that doctors are available to assist all the needy in the relief camp.

On June 12, a gas explosion occurred during servicing operations at ONGC's well number RDS-147A in Barichuk Bhatiapar of Shiv Sagar district. Gas started leaking from the well, due to which people living in the surrounding village had to face problems. People were shifted from there. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday decided to close the well permanently.
